2017 Parade Grand Marshals
Dick and Sue Baldwin
June 22, 2017
This year's Parade Grand Marshals have been involved in the community ever since their marriage in 1962. Fifty-five years later, they remain in Nashua, because to them - it's home.
Dick graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in electrical engineering and worked for BC Hydrotile as manager of production engineering until its closing in 1991.
After he declined a job offer that would have forced them to move from Nashua, they decided to stay here. They then purchased the Cedar Parkway restaurant, which they ran for 11 years until the State of Iowa bought it out for the use of the Avenue of The Saints (U.S. Hwy 218) exit to Nashua.
Sue is a retired RN - graduating from NIACC in Mason City and NICC in Calmar. She worked for Chautauqua Guest Homes in Charles City for 30 years in quality improvement. She was certified and taught Nurse Aide class, served on a regional committee, supporting dementia research and was a hospice volunteer through Hospice of North Iowa.
Dick has served on the City Council of Nashua for seven different Mayors! He was part of many projects in the city, including, but not limited to, the new water tower, fire station, dam reconstruction (the reason for our WODD celebration!), and the Gateway to Northeast Iowa Welcome Center.
For the past 12 years, they have served as Parish Coordinators at St. Michael's Catholic Church and Sue is the secretary for the Nashua-Plainfield Ministerial Group.
You will see them collection fees for many N-P Athletic Booster Club events and they are charter members of the Nashua Booster Club and the Nashua Town and Country Club, where Dick serves as director. Sue is the secretary of the Board of Directors of Mayberry Manor and continues to hold an office in Chapter E.N. of P.E.O.
The Baldwins are very proud of Nashua, including the outstanding school system, the many active churches, The Cedar Lake, beautiful parks and the friendliness and hospitality of a small town. They feel very honored and look forward to a wonderful weekend. They are ready for the parade, and the candy, which will be tossed to hundreds of people on the morning of Saturday, June 24th.
Congratulations and Thanks from the WODD Committee to this year's Grand Marshals, Dick and Sue Baldwin
